Residents are facing a new hit to their household budgets with Labour’s steep parking fee increases.
Resident annual parking permits will rise by at least 60%, with Band 4 vehicles seeing increases over 90%. Electric vehicles will now be charged for the first time, costing £125 a year.
Despite Labour’s 2022 promise of free parking for electric vehicles outside rush hour, they’ve backtracked, introducing a £2.80 charge instead. This is in addition to a nearly 30% rise in visitor parking, with Band 4 vehicles going from £3.50 to £4.50 per hour.
We strongly oppose these increases. Labour shouldn’t be using residents as a cash cow or penalising those with greener electric vehicles. The parking fee hike will return to the Council Cabinet soon, and we’ll be there, alongside residents, campaigning against it.
